What We Learned in August

Final Post

(i) We have a great time while we are in Canada. We learned not only English but also about Canadian culture. The most interesting for us was to study English with some activities and songs. We really enjoyed the class for this month. We both like singing songs so it was very good way to improve our English skills :-)

We also enjoyed some trips which were planned by VIU. For example, day trip to Tofino, Victoria, Newcastle Island, and so on. We were very impressed by Canadian beautiful nature and old buildings.

(ii) After we come back to Japan, we would like to keep writing diary to improve our writing skill. Writing a diary in English is very fun for us. After class, we often felt that we did not have a speaking skill so we continue shadowing English movies or songs. We strongly believe that we will be better language learners if we make efforts by using these things.

Urashima Taro

One day he saw a turtle which was bullied by some boys, so he helped it. Then, the turtle took him to the Palace of the Dragon God and he spent very good time there.
However, he wanted to come back to his hometown, because he remembered his family and friends, so he decided to go home, and the princess gave him the precious box. After he came back, he opened the precious box, then he bacame an old man.





Why it is important for us?

Good luck will not continue. If we dont make effort, we dont have anything.

English Fable

Cinderella

She was bullied by stepmother and her daughters. One day, a ball was held in the castle, but Cinderella had no dress. Then, a witch cast a spell on her, so she could go to the ball. In the castle, Cinderella met a prince.
However, the bell rung at twelve oclock, so she was upset and she dropped her glass shoes. The prince fell in love with her, so he dicided to look for woman who has glass shoes. Finally he found Cinderella, and they married.




Why it is important for us?

If we make effort, we can do everything which we like.

About Japan

We are both from Japan.

There are some differences between Japan and Canada.
First, here in Canada, a consumption tax is higher than that of Japan. We were very surprised to know that. Second is about breakfast. Japanese often have rice, miso soup, green tea and so on. On the other side, Canadian have cerial, toast, coffee, amd so on. We both like Canadian food very much. Third is about a bus. In Canada, the bus drivers do not announce where the next bus stop is. We were very very confused when we got on the bus for the first time. For, in Japan, the bus drivers always annouce where the next bus stop is. So this was the surprising thing to us. There are more differences between Canada and Japan. It is interesting to understand them.

About Hike to Colliery Dam Park

Today, we went hiking to Colliery Dam Park in the morning. On the way, we saw a lot of plants which teacher taught us in the class. For example, black berry, maple, small apple, and so on. We spent a very enjoyable time there.
In the Colliery Dam Park, we enjoyed a beautiful scenery. I think that there are a lot of beautiful places in Canada.
